The best advice is DON'T GO OVERBOARD until you understand what you are getting into.

There is a massive learning curve in  practical shooting, and even the cheapest pistol with there modern technology will surpass a new shooter. Later, when the new shooter has learned to function under pressure and honed his shooting skills he can always modify his original gun or choose to go for an all singing custom pistol.

Our advice to a novice shooter is to purchase a semiauto blow back pistol which takes double stack magazines. The Strayer-Voigt standard pistol 5 inch (WA-SVR) is an ideal pistol.

Magazines (Clip)

Double Stack SVI

The gun you bye will come with one Magazine, you will need a spare.

Double stack magazines hold 30 rounds and are more likely to fit the pistol you upgrade to in the future.

30 Round Power Mag-R  £30.00

Holster

The holster must cover the trigger of the pistol and the muzzle must point downward to within 1 meter of the wearer.   The holster must also retain the gun through jump and roll tests, yet release it easily when you draw.
Practical shooting tends to demand highly efficient high-tech holsters. They seem daringly low cut, but they hold the gun while you go full speed over a 6' wall and permit a smooth draw from the shooting box .

The most commonly used of the high-tech holsters are made by Safariland, There are also a number of excellent 'tactical' holster makers.

Value for money, you wont go far wrong with the excellent CR Speed holster

Virtually all the speed type holsters will fit the type of gun used in practical shooting, so if & when you upgrade your gun you wont need to change you holster.

CR speed  Holster  Model A  £55

Magazine Pouch
You will need one mag pouch for each Magazine (clip) you purchase including the 'one' Magazine that comes with the gun.

We recommend that you purchase 2 X Tactical: Price £18

Model 773

773 Competition Magazine Pouch

This pouch utilizes the same adjustable belt loop and rollers as the Model 771. We have closed the front area of the pouch so that it helps retain the magazine. There is also a built up channel for clearance of the tip of the bullet during the draw.

Basketweave / Carbon Fibre: Price £21

Consumables

Safety

EYE  PROTECTION - Safety or shooting glasses  ARE REQUIRED.

BB Balls are renowned for ricocheting back towards the shooter and any person in the vicinity. Whilst they will not hurt if you are hit by a ricochet, the eyes are extremely vulnerable and is vitally important that all persons where safety glasses.

Gun Belt

The holsters and Mag pouches are designed to fit a standard leather type trouser belt 11/2 inches in width and approximately 1/4 inch thick.

There are also "double-belt" systems that use velcro to join an "under" belt which is usually worn through the belt loops with an "over" belt that holds the holster and magazine pouches. This type of gun belt saves sliding the holster and pouches off and on each time the belt is removed without disturbing the positioning of the mag pouches and holster.

Clothing

Should allow you full freedom of movement and be adequate for outdoor use. Practical shooters dislike seeing shooters in camouflage clothing , It gives us Image Problems. We're sure you'll understand.

Matches are run in all weather conditions, so having foul-weather gear (raincoat, gloves, etc.) is suggested. Some competitors are now carrying knee and elbow pads for use in events that require the shooter to go prone or kneeling as quickly as possible. Athletic shoes are also suggested.
